Harry Potter film fans get special access to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The lucky guests who planned ahead and saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II at CityWalk were rewarded with exclusive access to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter following the movie. These young witches and wizards got to roam the area from 3 to 5am for this special event. Personally, we can't imagine a more magic-filled night.

Richter's Burger Co.

Location: Universal Studios Florida - San Francisco

Richter’s Burger Co. is one of the best themed restaurants in the park. Every detail of the building is created to resemble the aftermath of a devastating earthquake. From the upside-down statue embedded in the floor beside the door to the menu boards that have been cracked in two, it’s obvious that this place has been through quite an ordeal. Take a good look around as you dine to really appreciate all the little details that went into the design, such as the hammer and bell rigged to the ceiling to warn of another quake.

Richter’s has a fairly limited menu with only 5 options, but these are diverse enough to satisfy nearly anyone (see full menu below). If you’re feeling the constraint of so few meal options, consider that you can choose from more than 100 drinks. The Coca-Cola Freestyle beverage machines at the end of the line have handy touch screens to help you navigate the dozens of available choices till you find the perfect concoction to quench your thirst.

Curious George Goes to Town

Location: Universal Studios Florida - Woody Woodpecker's Kidzone

Height Restriction: None

Age Appropriateness: Children

Description: Curious George Goes to Town is a water-filled playland for children. The area is themed after the classic Curious George books, and you can find storybook pages throughout that tell the tale of another of George's mischievous journeys. Just past the entrance to your right you'll find some posters with holes cut out for kids' faces that make great photo-ops.

The splash pad on the left just past the entrance offers gentle fun for smaller tots. The larger playland features two stories of fountains, water walls, spraying and splashing. If you want to stay dry you can stick to the clearly designated outer limits of the area, but to get the most out of the area you’ll just have to get wet…or soaked.

As you explore the lower level you’ll find plenty of places to pull ropes and turn levers for fun surprises. The second level is for visitors of a more devious nature, as this is the spot where you’ll find dump buckets and water guns for soaking unsuspecting guests below. When you hear the bells going off, make sure you’re away from the center of the play area. This noise signals that one of the two giant dump buckets on either side of the space is about to overturn. On busy days, masses of kids who’ve gotten wise to the system will make a beeline for the spot just below these buckets.

The enclosed space behind the water playland houses the Ball Factory. In here you can wade through ball pits or wage war on others with ball-filled air cannons. Just make sure you’re dry, shoed and clothed before heading back into this area.

Getting Ready: If you plan to spend some time in this play area, bring appropriate water wear or clothing you won’t mind getting wet. There are no towels so bring your own if you don’t want to drip dry.

Woody Woodpecker's Nuthouse Coaster

Location: Universal Studios Florida - Woody Woodpecker's Kidzone

Height Restriction: 36”

Age Appropriateness: Anyone tall enough to ride

Seat Type: Bench for two with a lap bar

Ride Description: Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster is designed to look like the silly joke-filled creation of the wise-cracking bird himself. Though Woody Woodpecker may be a forgotten character to some kids today, he's actually the icon of the park and this coaster is his signature attraction. This is a relatively slow moving coaster with only gentle hills and turns. It’s an ideal choice for kids who are new to thrill rides. Older guests won’t get much out of the short adventure, which lasts only about 45 seconds, but small visitors will get a thrill out of a ride so obviously designed just for them. Keep a look out in the queue for a few extra bells and whistles to play with while you wait.

Getting Ready: Make sure small riders are measured before you get in line. If they come up too short, shrug it off and move on.

Worth the Wait: Since there are so few rides for little kids, 20 to 30 minutes isn’t bad and even more may be worth it for kids who are excited to take on their very first roller coaster. Older guests should save their time for more thrilling attractions.

Animal Actors on Location

Location: Universal Studios Florida - Woody Woodpecker's Kidzone

Height Restriction: None

Age Appropriateness: Any

Seat Type: Stadium

Show Description: Animal Actors on Location is a stage show featuring a vast array of trained animals. The intro includes a raccoon, skunk, pig, birds, dogs and even a few well trained cats. Movie clips are interspersed with humorous animal performances for an entertaining show that’s appropriate for the whole family. You can even get picked as a volunteer if you’re itching to be part of the action. The show lasts about 20 minutes and features several short bits with pigs, dogs, birds and the star of the show – a playful orangutan. Movie buffs may even recognize some of the little stars such as the pug from Men in Black. Universal is a little lean on attractions for toddlers and small children so this is a must see if you have these types of youngsters in your party.

Getting Ready: Check show times as soon as you get to the park so you can plan appropriately.

Worth the Wait: Since this is a show and not a ride, you can typically pop in at any point prior to show time and get a seat. If you want a prime spot up front, get here about 15 minutes early.

Bubba Gump Shrimp Company

Location: CityWalk - Islands Side

Bubba Gump Shrimp Company enjoys prime placement as one of the first restaurants you’ll see entering CityWalk and one of the last you’ll see leaving. If you’re a fan of simple, hearty seafood fare you’re in luck. This restaurant is equal parts southern seafood and movie kitsch.

As soon as you sit down you’ll notice that things run a bit differently here. Each table is equipped with a set of license plates reading “Run Forest Run” and “Stop Forest Stop.” If you want your server to stop by, you just flip to the appropriate sign. The idea being that they’ll otherwise leave you to enjoy your meal. We were forced to go through a lengthy drill of Forest Gump trivia mid-conversation but otherwise the system seemed to work.

As the name of the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company would suggest, you can get shrimp served up nearly any way imaginable here from Dumb Luck Coconut Shrimp with Cajun marmalade to “I’m Stuffed!” Shrimp, filled with crab. Cajun spices abound and give an especially tasty flair to the fish in Bubba’s After the Storm “Bucket of Boat Trash”. If the name of that meal seems like a handful, you’ll get a kick out of just reading through the menu. Nearly every dish is named for a Forest Gump movie reference.

In fact, fans of the classic Tom Hanks film will find the kitsch here as enjoyable as the food. Every facet of the restaurant is designed to reflect some part of Forest’s fantastic journeys. The meals themselves are teeming with cute nods to the movie as well, from the newspaper-print papers beneath the fish and chips plate to the cardboard ship, dubbed “Jenny”, that the kid’s meal comes in.

Appetizers range from $4.99 for a garlic bread basket to $14.99 for the Run Across America Sampler. If you’re on a budget, salads are $10 to $12 and sandwiches are no more than $13. The majority of the seafood platters, however, hover around $17 to $20. Overall the food is slightly above average though not stunning. For theme park fare at a spot with a theme, though, it’s a pretty good deal.
